For many credit unions, the first 90 days after a new membersigns on can be a critical gauge on whether a relationship can benurtured and sustained for the long term. 

That time frame will certainly be a factor as questions fromboth in and outside the credit union industry wonder what became ofthe 214,000 members who joined in the month leading up to BankTransfer Day on Nov. 5, 2011. That's not including the 450,000 newmembers who joined credit unions in September, October, Novemberand December last year. 

Competitors, particularly some banks, may also wonder if thatmembership surge led to meaningful, revenue-buildingrelationships.
