The $615 million Tulsa Federal Credit Union won the MACQUEE Award as best in show at the annual Marketing Association of Credit Unions annual conference last week in Seattle.

The 54,000-member Oklahoma credit union was honored for its “Nothing Checking” promotion that worked the theme: “Our new checking account is a big bunch of nothing” through television, print and outdoor elements.

The result was record checking account growth, during and after the promotion, the credit union said.

“Nothing makes me happier than winning this award,” said John Speaker, Tulsa FCU's vice president of marketing.

The best in show winner was decided by live voting during the conference. MAC said the other finalists included the $1.3 billion Arizona State Credit Union of Phoenix, the $10.6 billion BECU of Tukwila, Wash., and the $778 million Fort Worth Community Credit Union of Bedford, Texas.

More than 200 people attended the conference and more than 60 credit unions won awards.

Next year's MAC conference will be in Las Vegas, the group said.
