Goldenwest Credit Union has found the perfect way to honor former president/CEO Shelley Clarke's 37 years of dedicated service.

The $780 million credit union's corporate office in Ogden, Utah, has been named the Shelley B. Clarke Building.

Clarke, who retired as president/CEO on Dec. 31, 2011, was surprised by the announcement during a special event in her honor.

Clarke got her start at Goldenwest in 1974 serving members behind the teller line. The credit union said Clarke's strong work ethic and can-do attitude, combined with her Weber State and CUNA Management School education, helped her move up the ranks, becoming vice president in 1983, executive vice president in 1990, and president/CEO in 2001.

"It has been my greatest honor and privilege to be associated with Goldenwest during the last 37 years," said Clarke. "As a credit union, we have always tried to do the right things for the right reasons. We measure our success in providing maximum return to our members and the communities we serve."

Executive Vice President Kerry Wahlen has been tapped to succeed Clarke as president/CEO and has more than 33 years of financial industry experience.

The building naming was at least the second such act in the past year. Last spring, the $1.1 billion Numerica Credit Union named its headquarters building after its retired president/CEO, Dennis Cutter.
