With a recent 50% increase in new checking accounts, Palisades Federal Credit Union plans to keep the momentum going with $150 bonuses to new interest checking account holders on Saturday.

The $130 million credit union in Pearl River, N.Y. said a surge in new checking accounts in October was the largest increase this year.

On Bank Transfer Day, Palisades FCU said it will pay a $150 bonus to any new member who opens a free interest checking account that day.

“We have nothing against banks and value their contribution to the local economy,” said Anthony Pili, vice president of sales and marketing at Palisades FCU. “The recent grassroots movements have definitely heightened credit union awareness and informed consumers that they do have options when it comes to where they bank.”

Palisades FCU joins others that are offering incentives. The $2.9 billion Mountain America Credit Union said it will offer a $125 to those who open a new checking account on Bank Transfer Day.
