Add Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) to the growing list of legislators who are keeping up to speed on credit unions and business lending.
Kinzinger met with CU leaders and chapter volunteer legislative forum representatives of the Illinois Credit Union League on Aug. 9 to discuss a number of industry topics. Among them was the lack of funding available to small businesses.
The league said the meeting was requested to provide Kinzinger with input from Illinois CUs, their issues, and the impact of federal legislation on their membership.

There are nearly 150,000 members living in Kinzinger's 11th Congressional District, which is served by 46 credit unions that hold about $1 billion in assets, according to the league. The district is made up of eight counties in north-central and western Illinois.
Kinzinger also planned a roundtable Aug. 10 with small business owners to listen to and discuss their ideas to create more jobs.
Since elected to Congress last fall, Kinzinger has been appointed to the Energy and Commerce Committee and was named to the House Majority Transition Team.
The league said although his assignments may not necessarily have a direct correlation to CUs, the recent meeting was important to orient Kinzinger with them and constituents in his home district.
"We previously met at the time of his inauguration earlier this year, and this is part of our ongoing grassroots efforts to better acquaint lawmakers with our important issues and the chapter network of political activists," said Don Edwards, senior vice president for governmental affairs at the Illinois league.
