The $1.4 billion, 134,000-member University Federal Credit Union in Austin, Texas, will deploy ATMs to open three branches without tellers, according to an announcement from Diebold, an ATM manufacturer which will provide the machines.
The machines will accept and image deposits of both cash and checks, Diebold said.
“Teller-less branches provide a unique level of autonomy for banking customers, allowing them to manage their own transactions,” said Charles E. Ducey Jr., executive vice president of North America operations for Diebold in Canton, Ohio.
“But individuals may still need support. The branch designs we have developed with UFCU enable the credit union to offer that personalized support in a comfortable, sales-oriented environment,” Ducey said.
The branches will include “personal financial representatives” to assist members of the Austin credit union. The first teller-less branch is supposed to open in January of next year, the company said.
