Talk is cheap, which is why credit unions have opted to demonstrate the credit union difference within their local communities.
Whether through fundraising, volunteering or sponsorship of local events, credit unions have continued to support and aid those in need.
At Tinker Federal Credit Union, staffers recently wrapped up hand2hand, a weeklong volunteer effort. Some 200 employees of the $2.5 billion Oklahoma City credit union were able to donate their time during working hours to area non profit organizations.

In Indianapolis, Kemba Credit Union and the $413 million Finance Center Federal Credit Union have teamed up with the $2 billion South Bend-based TCU to sponsor Samaritan's Feet Barefoot in the Park 5K run or two-mile barefoot walk in the Precedent Office Park slated for Oct. 1.
The barefoot walk is designed to give participants greater insight to what more than 300 million children experience every day. According to Samaritan's Feet, the $25 entry fee will provide four pairs of shoes to children in need.
Over at the $725 million Bellingham, Wash.-based Whatcom Educational Credit Union's social responsibility committee has made $23,965 in donations to local non-profits. The committee supports education, health and community-related projects, particularly those that address acute community concerns such as violence, homelessness and drug abuse.
