The 121 employees of the $412 million Sun East Federal Credit Union in Aston, Pa., have now earned something dearly coveted – a day off.
That's because the CU achieved 100% participation in a "Deduct-A-Buck" political advocacy campaign.
The vacation day offer came last Friday after the employees reached the target set by its president/CEO, Michael Kaczenski. He said he's vowed to generate higher internal advocacy awareness and political action "at a time when we are facing a barrage of challenges from the banks, the debit interchange and more."

Sun East expects to have a $300 check going to the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association's Legislative Action Committee every two weeks, said Denise Romanelli, the credit union's director of employee development and community relations manager.
Romanelli said 24 employees committed to contributing $5 or more per paycheck and 14 people made one-time contributions totaling $1,191.
Kaczenski said the CU's "unique approach to Deduct-A-Buck" reflects the industry need to support grassroots legislative efforts at both the state and federal level and to make "a smart investment" in the future.
"Our stewardship now makes a difference today and for the future," he said in a statement.
Sun East said its employees also have participated in letter writing campaigns to state and federal lawmakers and that "busloads of employees 'hiked the hill' last year to personally deliver letters to congressmen about the negative effects interchange will have on consumers."
As for the days off, a spokesman said each employee "can pick and choose through the remainder of 2011."
