Ron Woodbury, a former executive vice president at the $781 million Altura Credit Union of Riverside, Calif., who left last July to start a consulting business, is running for mayor of the community in 2012.

Woodbury said his credit union background in technology and liaison work with community groups would prove beneficial to the mayor's job.

Woodbury, who has been in the CU industry for 28 years, had been executive vice president/chief information & administrative officer. He has been doing strategic consulting work for various southern California businesses since leaving Altura.

Woodbury filed papers with the city clerk of Riverside, a community of 300,000, on Dec. 28.

He began his CU career in 1982, as a computer technician at Altura's predecessor CU, later joining Xceed Financial CU and then returning to Altura. He is a graduate of CUES' CEO Institute, a member of CUES inaugural "Rising One Hundred" and was named CUES "Operations Professional of the Year"

Woodbury faces two other candidates in the non-partisan mayor's race with the primary actually occurring in June 2012.

The primary winner is likely to take office at that time barring any runoff.
