Cloud computing adoption and outsourcing IT, preparing for the changeover of Internet server addresses, mobile computing and the continuing rollout of the Windows 7 operating system are all things that the credit union backshop may be dealing with in 2011.
That's according to a new report titled "Top 7 IT Trends for '11″ offered up by NSK Inc., a Boston-based provider of IT services to a wide range of small and medium-sized businesses.
Number one on the firm's list is a continuing increase in off-site storage and application deployments while "more organizations begin to implement virtualized internal environments as private clouds gain popularity this year."

The little publicized but critical transition from IPv4 to IPv6, the Internet protocol technology that assigns addresses to computers, will expand the current global capacity from 4 billion addresses exponentially and will require compatible new servers and operating systems, NSK said.
Meanwhile, NSK predicts the rollout of Windows 7 will move slowly as technical support for Windows XP nears its announced 2014 deadline "and IT budgets increase to accommodate company-wide deployment," NSK said.
Also, the shift from BlackBerry to Android and iPhone as an industry standard will continue, NSK predicts, along with a surge in demand for mobile apps and compatible websites.
