The California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues recognized two community development credit unions for their community outreach efforts.

The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions reported that the Episcopal Community Federal Credit Union saw its CEO, Urla Abrigo, win an individual Community Outreach Award while Mission SF Federal Credit Union won a Community Outreach Award in the under $100 million category.

Episcopal Community is headquartered in Anaheim, Calif., and Mission SF is headquartered in San Francisco.

Abrigo won her award for her efforts to organize and sponsor a health event for area women, many of whom were homeless and otherwise lacked health insurance.

"As a community development credit union we do all we can to serve the financial needs of our members and our community, but it was clear to me that fixing peoples' finances is not always enough," Abrigo explained in a National Federation press statement.

"People are suffering from other ailments and I felt that we needed to do something more to help, so I contacted our Bishop and my doctor friend, and our wellness day was the result. It's an honor to receive this award and recognition for our work with at-risk populations, but we did this not in search of praise, but because it is the right thing to do."
