Advance Financial Federal Credit Union, Schererville, Ind., invites its members and neighbors to help reduce hunger in the community and enhance the holidays for many local families by donating to their annual food drive, benefiting The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, an affiliate of Feeding America. This year marks the fifth year that the credit union, its members and the community have helped to support those in need by giving back through food and monetary donations.
Andrews Federal Credit Union, Suitland, Md., partnered with the Hearts Apart program on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst to provide 48 backpacks for children of deployed service members. The Hearts Apart program offers support and activities to spouses and family members of deployed service members while their loved ones are away. Andrews Federal also gave $500 to a team of 50 service members who ran in the U.S. Air Force Marathon for the Fisher House Foundation. All proceeds raised by the Fisher House running teams were dedicated to the foundation and to the construction of a Wright-Patterson Fisher House.
The California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues, Ontario, Calif., are collecting donations for a toy drive with Children's Miracle Network to benefit Children's Hospital of Orange County. Individuals and credit unions can make donations through the last day of the leagues' annual meeting and convention-Nov. 17. The annual meeting will be held at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif.

Connecticut Credit Union, Meriden, Conn., through its Connecticut Credit Union Charitable Foundation, presented donation checks to the Connecticut Food Bank, Hartford Foodshare and Operation Fuel in a continuing effort to raise money for the needy men, women and children of Connecticut. The total amount donated was $27,000.
Electro Savings Credit Union, St. Louis, and West Newsmagazine held a coloring contest to raise money for Homes for Our Troops, a national nonprofit organization that assists severely injured servicemen and servicewomen by raising donations and coordinating the building of accessible homes. People attending the St. Louis Home Fires BBQ Bash in Wildwood, Mo. voted on entries displayed at the credit union booth with $1 donations. The voting collected $125, with Electro Savings matching the collection for a total donation of $250.
Elevations Credit Union, Boulder, Colo., raised donations for relief efforts related to a recent wildfire in Loveland, Colo. Elevations Foundation, the official charitable arm of Elevations Credit Union, has disbursed funds in the amount of $81,000 to various local agencies, including Boulder County Community Services, the Foothills United Way and the Community Foundation Serving Boulder. Funds were collected at all of the credit union's nine branch locations and by phone.
FAIRWINDS Credit Union, Orlando, Fla., is helping in the fight against diabetes with a unique campaign to raise awareness. Quilt for the Cure encourages members of the Central Florida community to stop by any FAIRWINDS branch location through Nov. 6 to sign a Cure Quilt square for a small donation. Members can sign their names or include any message of hope. Corporate sponsorships to purchase an entire quilt are also available. At the conclusion of the Step Out to Fight Diabetes Walk on Nov. 6, employees volunteering their time and creativity will assemble the quilts. Finished quilts will be displayed in select branches throughout the holidays and then donated to local shelters this winter.
Jersey Shore Federal Credit Union, Rio Grande, N.J., donated school supplies to the Lower Township School District as part of its "Tools for School" program. Supplies were collected at the credit union's offices in Rio Grande, Northfield, and the William J. Hughes Technical Center. The supplies will be distributed among the district's four schools.
Quincy Credit Union, Quincy, Mass., recently partnered with Quincy Public Schools and local businesses to provide 500 backpacks filled with many necessary school supplies, including pencils, pens, notebooks, folders and rulers, to assist children as they began a productive and successful school year. Credit union employees volunteered their time to stuff the backpacks with the supplies and were on hand during the first week of school.
