Arizona State Credit Union, Phoenix, Ariz., received the Peter Barron Stark Companies Award for Workplace Excellence. Although it is the fourth time the credit union has received the award, it is especially significant this year because it has received an overall favorable response rating from its associates despite the difficult times facing the financial services industry and the weak economy. The credit union maintained current associate programs and added several more, allowing its already positive corporate culture to improve, a requirement for winning the workplace excellence award.
BayPort Credit Union, Newport News, Va., announced that its information technology department won Software & Management Associates' “Inaugural Impact Project” contest. BayPort's team, led by senior systems analyst Bruce Jernell, submitted a 15-20 minute video that showcased the department's creativity and innovation in using SMA's automation technology product OpCon/xps. As part of the prize, SMA will donate $1,500 to a charity of BayPort's choosing.
BrightStar Credit Union, Sunrise, Fla., announced that its president/CEO Raffael Crockett received the “Man of the Year” award from the Broward County chapter of the United Nations Association in recognition of his exemplary achievements enhancing Broward County. The United Nations Association of the USA provides information and educational series on the work of the United Nations and on global issues throughout communities across the nation. Crockett has more than 22 years of experience in the credit union and banking industries, including eight years as president and CEO of BrightStar. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Southeast Corporate Credit Union and on that of Florida Credit Union Shared Services, Inc.
California Credit Union League, Sacramento, Calif., will honor six dedicated credit union leaders and volunteers at this year's California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues' Annual Meeting and Convention. Chris Coursen from Fairview Employees Federal Credit Union and Brett Martinez from Redwood Credit Union have each received the distinguished service award. California Bear Credit Union board member Sherman Grancell has received the outstanding volunteer award. Jay Lee from CalCom Federal Credit Union and Dhara Sanchez from Inland Empire Credit Union have received “Tomorrow's Star” awards. And Henry Wirz, CEO of the North Highlands, Calif.-based SAFE Credit Union, has been honored with the 2010 Leo H. Shapiro Lifetime Achievement Award.
Elevations Credit Union, Boulder, Colo., announced that Patrick Seal, a registered representative affiliated with broker-dealer and registered investment adviser CUSO Financial Services LP was a recent recipient of CFS' Bronze Pacesetter Award at the CFS “Break On Through 2010″ annual conference, recently held in San Diego. The award honors the top producing registered representatives among CFS' 130-plus credit union programs. Seal was credited with generating significant revenue while providing high quality financial and retirement planning services to Elevations members. He has served the credit union membership for six years.
Kern School Federal Credit Union, Bakersfield, Calif., announced that its investment adviser Scott Boyd has been given the 2009 Gold Pacesetter Award by CUSO Financial Services. The award honors the top-producing registered representatives among CFS' 130-plus credit union programs. The annual awards are presented by CFS as a way to recognize dedication to high standards, commitment to superior service and outstanding performance in delivering investment services to members. Scott Boyd was credited with generating significant revenue while providing high quality financial and retirement planning services to Kern Schools Federal Credit Union members. He has served the credit union membership for two years and has over 35 years of experience as a financial adviser.
The Credit Union Association of Oregon, Beaverton, Ore., announced that many Oregon credit unions have received recognition from the Portland Business Journal Philanthropy Awards. Advantis Credit Union and Unitus Community Credit Union of Portland, as well as Oregon Community Credit Union of Eugene, were honored in the small company category for their generosity. First Tech Credit Union and Rivermark Community Credit Union were the recipients of the award in the medium category. OnPoint Community Credit Union received an award in the category of “innovative partnerships,” and Forest Park Credit Union made the top rank of corporate givers.
The Credit Union Executives Society, Madison, Wis., announced Randy Smith, president/CEO of Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union, Universal City, Texas, as the 2010 CUES Outstanding Executive, an award presented for excellence in leadership. Smith will be honored on Sunday, Nov. 7, at CUES' CEO/Executive Team Network, in Dallas. At the ceremony, CUES will also honor four CUES Hall of Fame inductees: Carla L. Altepeter, of CitizensFirst Credit Union, Oshkosh, Wis.; O. William Cheney III, of CUNA & Affiliates, Madison, Wis.; Michael J. Connery Jr., of United Nations Federal Credit Union, Long Island City, N.Y.; and David J. Serlo (deceased), formerly of PSCU Financial Services Inc., St. Petersburg, Fla. CUES hall of fame inductees are nominated by the CUES board of directors for lifetime achievement and are recognized annually for their contributions to their profession and the industry.
