Texas credit unions are wasting little time to make their views known to the NCUA about the shape of the corporate system and servicing dilemmas.
As of publication, 140 top managers and volunteers of Texas CUs signed up to be members of an advisory council being put together by the NCUA-conserved Southwest Bridge Corporate FCU of Plano with help from the Texas Credit Union League.
John McKechnie, NCUA's director of public and congressional affairs, said there is no firm timetable when the appointments will be made or how many council members would be included.

McKechnie emphasized that the panel was created at the request of Southwest Corporate members and "is not mandatory and will have no oversight" over operations.
Still, the league said the large number of willing candidates demonstrated the intense level of concern, according to TCUL President/CEO Dick Ensweiler.
"Anyone who has spent any time in Texas will tell you that there's considerable passion around controlling one's destiny," Ensweiler stated. He added that the council candidates represent a diverse spectrum of CU views representing both and large Southwest members.
McKechnie said the Southwest leadership team would develop a plan "to integrate this council and establish a vision for Southwest services."
He said that both Members United and WesCorp may be following Southwest Bridge's lead. "Such a decision is between the corporate leadership team and the members," McKechnie said.
