Carter Federal Credit Union, Springhill, La., held its third annual St. Jude hamburger fundraiser at the Springhill Wal-Mart in August. Carter Federal employees served $5 hamburger meals, which included chips, dessert and a drink. More than $2,000 was collected at this event and donated to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Connex Credit Union, Wallingford, Conn., recently donated $344 to Pond Hill School Parent Teacher Organization. The money for this donation, which is planned to go toward playground renovation, came from the fees collected by a coin cashing machine in the Connex Wallingford Branch. Connex charges a 5% fee to members and a 7% fee to nonmembers and donates the money collected to caring organizations in the community. Pond Hill PTO supports the school by sponsoring at-home reading programs, school enrichment programs, cultural programs, family fun nights, book fairs and assistance for classroom needs, including library, music and physical education.

Dow Chemical Employees' Credit Union, Midland, Mich., recently raised $355 for United Way of Midland County. For the one-day fundraiser in August, participating employees each donated money, which entitled them to wear blue jeans and tennis shoes to work that day. United Way of Midland County and its 28 agency partners monitor and address community needs with specialized programs.
