Addison Avenue Federal Credit Union,Sacramento, Calif., helped raise more than $14,000 for the MuscularDystrophy Association at the annual Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon.Working with the Sacramento MDA, Addison employees raised funds anddemonstrated support for co-worker Pang Thao, whose nine-year-oldbrother was recently diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.More than 60 people participated in the Addison Avenue “StrikeForce Bowl-A-Thon” event, raising $6,482. Addison contributed anadditional $7,565. Addison Avenue's donation is helping send localchildren to MDA summer camp, support the Sacramento MDA Clinic atthe UC Davis Medical Center, and fund research for Duchenne, agenetic disease that progressively weakens skeletal muscles.

Genisys Credit Union, Auburn Hills, Mich.,supported the Auburn Hills Police Department's 10th annual NationalNight Out. The event, sponsored by the National Association of TownWatch, is held each year to increase awareness of crime ?preventionand community involvement.

Thousands of people came out to the Auburn Hills CommunityCenter for a free evening of food, fun, music, entertainment andsafety demonstrations. A dunk tank was also provided, complimentsof Genisys, where kids could test their skills and dunk theirfavorite police officer.

Grow Financial Federal Credit Union, Tampa,Fla., has joined with the Hillsborough County Financial Literacyprogram to provide basic financial education to the underbankedresidents of the community. The program teaches the principles ofbanking and budgeting. Residents who enroll receive $250 from thecounty upon completion of the course, and the funds must bedeposited into a banking institution. Those who complete asecondary course receive an additional $100.

Heritage Credit Union, Madison, Wis., held aschool supply drive to benefit children in need on Madison'sNorthside. The event took place at HCU's Shopko Drive branch duringthe first few weeks of August and supplies were given to ShermanMiddle School. HCU members and staff were encouraged to bringschool supplies into the branch to be distributed by Sherman MiddleSchool to children in need. As a result of many generous donations,many large and small school items were collected. The donationsincluded backpacks, notebooks, scissors, folders, markers, pencilsand many other items.

Illinois Credit Union League, Napervillle,Ill., recently collected 700 pounds of food and $500 for theNorthern Illinois Food Bank. Nonperishable items, such as cannedfruits and vegetables, canned meals, tuna, peanut butter and cerealwere among the most needed items collected in the drive. This wasthe second food drive held by ICUL employees in as many years.Named the 2010 food bank of the year by Feeding America, NorthernIllinois has distributed more than 36.5 million pounds of food sofar in 2010 to more than 520 food pantries, shelters, soup kitchensand other food assistance sites in 13 northern Illinois counties.More than 502,000 people receive food assistance each year throughNIFB and its hunger-fighting network.

San Antonio Credit Union, San Antonio, and KENS5 television station began their 12th year of honoring excellencein public schools through their award winning ExCEL Award program.Superintendents and administrators from 19 area districts joinedSACU and KENS leaders at a breakfast, held at the Oak Hills CountryClub. This year's program will include SACU Piggy Bank FinancialTips, aired monthly on “Great Day SA,” and a new opportunity forviewers to become involved through the “Recognize Your Teacher”program, in which individuals can visit KENS5.com and write atribute to a special teacher who has had an impact on their lives.Since 1999, SACU and KENS have recognized 209 teachers with atrophy and a check. Approximately every two weeks, SACU and KENSrecognize one of the district educators with a Golden Apple trophymade by the company who creates the Oscar for the Academy Awards, acash award for $1,000 and featured air time on Eyewitness News at 6p.m.

Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union, Lowell, Mass.,announced the winner of its “Kids in Action” summer 2010 communityservice project. William Gris?, age 12, of Dracut, Mass., wasawarded the grand prize of $150 for his entry and a matching $150was awarded to William's selected charity, St. Vincent de PaulSociety through St. Francis Church in Dracut, Mass. The awardceremony was held at Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union's new corporateheadquarters at One Tremont Place in Lowell. William won the Kidsin Action project challenge for his idea of “Project Hope Chest,”using the slogan “Our stash for your cash.” By selling used toys,video games, and books and having a donation jar, William raised$136 for his charity, which he chose in memory of his grandfather.It was his grandfather's favorite charity.
