A recent segment on ABC's "Good Morning America" shined a spotlight on the credit unions difference.

As part of her "Savings Makeovers" series airing last month, GMA consumer correspondent Elisabeth Leamy and McGraw-Hill Federal Credit Union helped an East Windsor, N.J., family, the Shoblocks, find $108,602 in savings.

Leamy not only shopped around for better prices on everything from cell phone providers to groceries but also provided saving tips for credit cards, student loans and even medical procedures. She then turned to McGraw-Hill FCU for big expenses such as the family's car loan, credit card debt and mortgage. With help from the local credit union, the family was able to consolidate their credit cards and refinance their mortgage and car loans at a much lower rate.
