Indiana Members Credit Union has raised a total of over $53,000 to help ensure local children start off the new school year well equipped.

Funds raised as part of the Indianapolis-based credit union's school supply campaign will provide 3,000 backpacks and school supplies to underprivileged children. Enough funds were raised for IMCU to donate more than 72,500 supplies, which included: backpacks, notebooks, rulers, scissors, calculators, folders, colored pencils, crayons, markers, pens, pencils, erasers, art boxes, pencil sharpeners and glue.

It's reported that 80% percent of the families in the Indianapolis Public Schools need help with basic school supplies.
