Credit union officials in Texas and Brazil aim to beef up their strategies for serving agricultural members as part of World Council of Credit Unions' partnership program.

The Texas Credit Union League and Brazil's credit union trade association, Confedera<o Interestadual das Cooperativas Ligadas ao SICREDI (SICREDI), formalized the agreement last month during WOCCU's annual conference. Following the conference, a SICREDI delegation of 25 spent the week of July 15 in Texas, visiting Members Trust of the Southwest FCU and touring a 3,300 head dairy farm. Agricultural cooperatives are very strong in Brazil.

Collaboration will continue in September, with a four-week visit by 11 SICREDI staff to TCUL and its member credit unions, in order to get a better sense of how U.S. credit unions approach operational, marketing and member service issues, TCUL said in a release. The U.S. visits will be reciprocated in the future with a trip by TCUL staff and members to Brazil.
