Andrews Federal Credit Union, Suitland, Md., employees fell into step with the 600 Maryland residents who participated in the Annual Riverfront Revolution Run and Walk. More than 1,000 people attended the event, which included dancing, cultural foods and games. The event was held to promote exercise and healthy living.
FAIRWINDS Credit Union, Orlando, Fla., is becoming more readily accessible to its members through a free iPhone application. The new feature allows members to access account summaries, submit real-time and scheduled transfers, pay bills, and access branch location information. Additional features are already in the works for future upgrades to the FAIRWINDS iPhone application. The application is also available through the iPad or iPod Touch.
Genisys Credit Union, Auburn Hills, Mich., sponsored the Showcase & Taste, a Plymouth event hosted by the Community Chamber of Commerce that attracted over 800 people. The credit union also set up an expo booth at the event and offered the chance to win a $100 Visa gift card for filling out a survey.

The credit union has encouraged workers to help out in the central Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire communities whenever possible. Operating on the philosophy of 'paying it forward,' the GFA has pledged to donate one item to food pantries in the area each time the credit union receives news of a good deed via e-mail. Genisys Credit Union, Auburn Hills, Mich., provided health and safety informational services at two sponsored events in Chesterfield Township. At the Family Health & Safety Fair, Genisys made blood pressure and diabetes screenings available to the general public, as well as nutrition clinics and physical fitness exercises. In an additional effort to involve itself within the community, the credit union also sponsored the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life at L'Anse Creuse, a local middle school.
P & G Mehoopany Employees Federal Credit Union, Tunkhannock, Pa., attracted over one hundred people to its annual meeting on May 14. The meeting consisted of information regarding the standing and community involvement of the credit union as well as a special performance by a magician. During the meeting, the credit union also announced the recipients of its annual college scholarship for academic achievement, sports, or community involvement. Megan Wills, Chelsea Karabin, Jason Jadick, and Randall Kreulen each received $1,000 scholarships towards their college educations.
Electro Savings Credit Union, St. Louis, combined financial security services with a member appreciation event, shredding personal documents while distributing prizes and free lunches to the members who attended the two day celebration.
Apple Federal Credit Union, Fairfax, Va., liaison Terri Carson was recognized in a Huffington Post editorial by three members of the Obama administration. Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett commended Carson's efforts in teaching financial education at Stonewall Jackson High school as "important models to follow." The editorial attributed the exceptional performances of Stonewall High students (17 of whom earned perfect scores on the finance exam) to Carson's mentorship.
OMNI Community Credit Union, Battle Creek, Mich., held a bake sale in effort to raise funds for Relay for Life. The community event, one of 40 in which the credit union annually participates, provided more than $500 for the program.
