The Texas Credit Union League, joined up with NCUA, began warning CUs Wednesday to make sure disaster preparation plans are firmly in place in advance of Hurricane Alex.
The storm is now posing a threat to the Texas Gulf Coast with possible landfall in Mexico tonight.
The NCUA in a special advisory warned CUs and its members "to prepare for all contingencies including the possible interruption of some operations."

Last week the Texas League began once again implementing its new online storm tracking service providing up-to-the-minute forecasting expertise to pinpoint exactly when and where storms might hit, wind velocity, tides etc. The service, provided by Stormpulse of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., lets CUs prepare for possible power outages as well.
In its announcement, the NCUA said it would have an emergency toll-free hotline for CU members to call and that information on operating status of individual CU branches would be obtainable on the NCUA website.
In addition public service announcements on insurance and fund access would be distributed to news media in areas potentially affected by the storm. National Hurricane Center forecasters expect that Alex will have a sustained wind between 90 and100 mph at landfall, which will make it a strong Category 1 or minimal Category 2. Hurricane warnings are in effect from coastal southern Texas southward to the coast of northern Mexico.
