The founder and chairman of overdraft program provider Strunk & Associates, Bill Strunk, has passed away.
Strunk died on June 10 after battling leukemia. Strunk had over three decades of experience in consulting, planning and implementing deliver systems for the financial services industry. He developed head-on drive-in systems, member satisfaction models, telebanking, PIN and signature identification systems and shared ATM networks.
"Bill was well respected in both the bank and credit union communities," said Mike Sobba, Strunk's president/CEO. "In addition to designing and deploying the original Overdraft Privilege Service Program, Bill was responsible for a number of other innovations now commonly used by banks and credit unions nationwide," he continued. "He will be truly missed by our entire organization, as well as all who knew him."

Strunk was well-known for being a guest speaker and presenter at industry conferences and meetings and also served in an honorary position on the faculty of the Texas Tech School of Banking.
"Bill Strunk was a great friend, a truly generous human being and one of the great innovators of the financial services industry over the past thirty years," said Dennis Dollar, former NCUA chairman and principal partner of Dollar Associates LLC. "In partnership with his firm, I enjoyed countless opportunities to map strategy with him and gain the value of his experience in our field. The thing I remember most about Bill was his tireless commitment to absolutely doing things right and leaving no stone unturned when it came to making his programs the class of the industry."
"If everyone in the financial services industry had followed Bill Strunk's approach to running overdraft privilege programs over the past decade or so, we probably wouldn't have some of the new regulations and legislative proposals that we now face. He always took pride in his overdraft program, which he developed, being the Cadillac of its field. He will be truly missed."
