Regulators and the Minnesota Credit Union Network were trying to arrange assistance with the $10 million, single-branch Wadena FCU reportedly destroyed Wednesday night by a tornado, part of a series of twisters which raked northwest Minnesota.
There were no reports of employee injuries but state and NCUA regulators were on their way to the scene to aid the CU in disaster recovery efforts, said Peter Skaalen, executive vice president of MCUN. Manager of the CU is Kim Pexsa with the latest profile showing two full time employees.
"We are hoping to hear from anyone who has more information so our credit unions can provide assistance," said Skaalen. The twister, which killed three people, destroyed homes, businesses and a recreation center in Wadena, a community of 4,000, northwest of the Twin Cities. The twister struck about 5 p.m. as many people had gathered for an all-school reunion.
