Bay Federal Credit Union, Capitola, Calif., employees were honored at a recent United Way of Santa Cruz County awards ceremony for fundraising at local businesses. At the ceremony, employees received a silver award for helping raise a total of $8,048 for 30 health and human service programs throughout Santa Cruz County. The credit union, which has supported the local United Way with fundraising campaigns for more than 15 years, has contributed funding through one-time donations, payroll deductions and other employee campaigns, including an office rummage sale. According to Carrie Birkhofer, president/CEO of Bay Federal, who accepted the award, the funding will help Santa Cruz residents partake in United Way service programs despite budget cutbacks.

Redwood Credit Union, Santa Rosa, Calif., employees participated in two Big Brothers/Big Sisters’ events, raising more than $10,000 toward Sonoma County and Marin County mentoring programs. More than 100 Redwood Credit Union employees participated in the Rohnert Park and San Rafael “Bowl for Kids’ Sake” events.
