WESCO Net and CU*Answers said they have successfully tested a new disaster recovery system for the online banking solution used by more than 100 credit union clients.

The CUSOs' test involved recovering a back-end IBM System-I mid-range computer system at an IBM-operated backup site while online banking Web traffic was served out of WESCO Net's new data center in Muskegon, Mich.

The companies said the standby site now could be activated in less than 10 minutes to handle a failure of the host production site.

"This is a significant test for CU*Answers and WESCO Net because it certifies our ability to serve core Internet online banking capabilities to credit union members in the event of a catastrophic disaster that knocks our other data centers offline," said Dave Wordhouse, vice president of network technologies at WESCO Net in Grand Rapids, Mich.

CU*Answers provides the It's Me 24/7 online banking and the CU*Answers core processing system to more than 165 credit unions, while affiliated WESCO Net specializes in network design, managed security, disaster recovery and business continuity.
