Tower Federal Credit Union has made it easier for staffers to make time for exercise.

The Laurel, Md.-based credit union has unveiled its new on-site fitness facility available to all staffers. The new fitness facility is equipped with an elliptical machine, treadmill, two stationary bikes, large flat-screen TV, yoga mats, fitness balls and free weights.

"The fitness facility is a wonderful benefit for our employees," said Tower FCU President/CEO Martin Breland. "The idea for the fitness facility had been in the planning stages for a couple of years. Over time, we'd like to increase the size of the facility and add more equipment."

The facility is just the latest addition to Tower FCU's "Wealth of Wellness" program designed to promote and reward healthy lifestyles.

Tower staffers earn wellness points by attending fitness classes and health-related events like a Wellness Fair. To make exercise convenient, Tower hosts on-site cardio, yoga and strength training classes for employees. Points are also awarded for regular dental check-ups and physical exams. Employees who accumulate a certain number of points receive a contribution from Tower FCU to their flexible spending account, which can be used to pay for health care expenses.

Since the Wealth of Wellness launch in 2006, Tower FCU has been tinkering with its wellness offerings, which have always centered on health risk assessments, screenings, prevention and exercise. The credit union makes an effort to add something new each year to enhance and take the program to the next level.
