The number of shared branching transactions in Maine has risen significantly thanks to a pair of contests offered by Synergent, a CUSO subsidiary of the Maine Credit Union League.
Synergent aimed the first contest at the 41 credit unions in the state that use shared branching. The credit unions had to create their own "Top 10 List" of reasons members use shared branching. Entries included "heartwarming" stories about member experiences with shared branching, poems, and comedic videos.
The $45 million Community Credit Union, headquartered in Lewiston, won the contest with a video, http://www.youtube.com/user/MaineCreditUnions?feature=mhw5#p/a/u/1/BmYn2EkUUzY, meant to mimic an old style black and white silent movie that depicted ten ways shared branching helped members.

Then, in the second contest, credit union members were asked to share their favorite sharing moment in video, picture or words and Synergent received 93 entries in this six week contest.
Both the winning member and credit union received $500 for a charity of their choice as a prize.
