Starting with an initial $2,500 contribution, the West Virginia Credit Union League said Friday its foundation is working with other groups in the state to raise funds to help families of victims of the Upper Branch mining disaster.
"This is a tragedy that deeply affects all West Virginians," said Kenneth Watts, president/CEO of the league in detailing plans for a fund appeal going out to the 104 CUs in the state.
In working with the West Virginia Council of Churches, the league said donations can be made on behalf of the families in care of www.wvcc.org.

In the past, Watts said the foundation has been active in several major fund-raisers following flood disasters with the last being six years ago when $10,000 was donated.
"Our goal now is to do our part," said Watts.
