Young women who are victims of domestic violence or are homeless have a new maternity home to stay at thanks to partial financing of the facility by the State Employees' Credit Union's foundation.

The SECU Foundation teamed up with the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency to assist with the funding for My Sister's House, which is open to women ages 16-21. The Greensboro, N.C.-based maternity home can house up to five women and their infants with stays ranging from six to 24 months. The house also offers counseling, education and life skills training for its residents.

A $500,000, 0% construction loan was provided by the SECU Foundation to help build My Sister's House. The home was designed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification, which includes standards for lower energy and water bills and reduced exposure to mold, mildew and other indoor toxins.
