Charter Oak Federal Credit Union, Groton, Conn., announced that it has chosen to partner with the Women's Center of Southeastern Conn., by pledging over $30,000 in funding. Monetary support will be made regularly to the organization over the next several years. The center provides counseling to abused women and children. The Women's Center also provides community education and prevention programs.

Diamond Credit Union, Pottstown, Pa., celebrated the ninth consecutive year that it has achieved 100% employee participation for the United Way campaign. All 110 Diamond employees made donations to the United Way through weekly payroll contributions or a one-time payment, adding up to more than $17,500 for the United Way.

Arizona Credit Union League, Phoenix, hosted its 19th annual softball tournament, raising more than $8,000 for CUs for Kids, a program benefitting Phoenix Children's Hospital's “One Darn Cool School” program and Tucson Medical Center's “Hands on Therapy” program through the Children's Miracle Network. Fourteen Arizona credit unions participated in the event and funds were raised through ticket sales and team registrations.

Downey Federal Credit Union, Downey, Calif., presented $200 checks to 41 educators in local schools at the district office during a reception, totaling $8,200. This was the eighth year the credit union has sponsored this grant program, requesting proposals from any teacher or classified employee in Downey schools as to how the grant money would enrich students. Entries for grants were judged on clarity, uniqueness and creativity of idea, number of students impacted, relevance to classroom focus and district standards, level of enhancement of student learning experience and environment, and relevance to credit union, personal finance and financial education.

SELCO Community Credit Union, Eugene, Ore., awarded 95 mini-grants to area schools of up to $250 each for a total of $23,037. This helped to supplement funding to K-12 classrooms in communities the credit union serves. Mini-grants were awarded to educators who submitted lesson plans or projects through the credit union's online application process. The entries were evaluated for their educational impact, responsible use of funds and number of students who would benefit from the project. The grants awarded focused on building a number of academic skills, including reading, math, science, history and environmental studies.

Landmark Credit Union, New Berlin, Wis., raised over $91,000 in its 17th annual United Way campaign. Landmark Associates pledged $45,778, which was matched by the credit union. Landmark kicked off its campaign simultaneously at all 17 branches and its new administrative headquarters location with United Way employees or volunteers giving personal presentations at each one.

OSU Federal Credit Union, Lebanon, Ore., donated a small parcel of land toward providing the city of Lebanon a signage opportunity to welcome northbound traffic to the city. The parcel is part of the property purchased by the credit union in order to build a future branch. A small wedge of the property was an ideal size to accommodate a Welcome to Lebanon sign.

Credit Union Association of New York, Latham, N.Y., partnered with Sunmark Federal Credit Union in presenting $2,000 to the Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center. The donation represents proceeds accumulated by the organizations as part of the association's “Credit Unions Care for Kids” campaign.

United Teletech Financial, Tinton Falls, N.J., held its fifth annual Red Kettle basketball tournament raising nearly $2,000 for the Salvation Army. The event attracted over 400 spectators, and all money raised helps fund various programs at the Salvation Army throughout the year. The tournament was host to a number of boys' and girls' middle-school teams from the local area. The credit union provided financial support to help fund the tournament, supplied free giveaways to spectators and donated nearly 400 bottles of water to the Salvation Army to sell at the event. Additionally, the credit union presented gift checks to the “All-Tournament Team” MVPs.

DuPont Goodrich Federal Credit Union, Beaumont, Texas, announced a new campaign focused on giving back to members and local charities. “DuGood By Giving” allows members who finance a qualifying loan with the credit union to receive $250 cash back. The credit union will also donate an additional $250 for each loan financed to a local charity of the member's choice. The credit union has given over $17,000 to its members and the community since the campaign's start.
