Call it Babylon Revisited for the 21^st century. An unemployed, homeless and bankrupt man in Orange County, Calif., is living off the rewards points he accumulated while traveling on business in more prosperous times.

According to an account in the The Orange County Register, Jim Kennedy, 46, was a former corporate developer with a six figure income until he was laid off during the economic downturn. Unable to keep up on his mortgage payments, his condo was foreclosed in January after having filed for bankruptcy in August 2009. Now he is living at different local hotels off his credit card rewards and frequent flier points, accumulated when he traveled for his previous job.

Many of his material possessions are in storage, he is using an address at a retail packing store for his mail and living on $5 per day for food, not counting the free breakfasts that sometimes come with the hotel room. Kennedy told the register that he has a background in information technology and finance and considers his job search a matter of getting himself or his resume or both in front of as many people as possible.
