George Reynolds, who was NASCUS' chairman from 2007-2009, will retire from his post as senior deputy commissioner of the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance at the end of the April.
Reynolds, who has worked at the department since 1979, rose through the ranks after starting as an assistant financial examiner.
During his two years as NASCUS chairman, he testified often on Capitol Hill on a range of regulatory and legislative issues and was especially active in trying to persuade lawmakers and federal regulators to allow more credit unions to accept supplemental capital. The issue is still being discussed among regulators and lawmakers.
Reynolds, a certified public accountant whose responsibilities included overseeing the regulation of all state-chartered credit unions in Georgia, earned his undergraduate degree from Emory University and his graduate degree from Georgia State University.
