Ever so slowly, Mid-Atlantic credit unions were digging out today and opening their doors after the epic winter storms.
"We made it to work today and so did all of my employees and let me say you will never hear any complaints how hot it might get this summer," said a snow-weary Kimberly K. Darr, president/CEO of the $45 million Front Royal FCU in Virginia who noted snow totals so far this winter have topped 70 inches. "We were closed yesterday but never lost power but many employees lost power over the weekend."
The $76 million Washington Gas Light FCU in Springfield, Va., also closed for days, notified its members it would attempt to re-open its branches at noon.

Though many national industry trade offices in the impacted area remained closed for the fourth straight day, the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association said it would have an "a delayed opening this morning" with staffers available to assist members through e-mail and cell phones.
The Virginia Credit Union League, in Lynchburg was spared the storm's fury but did notify its members via e-mail that was it was postponing the Valentine's Day "Sweets 4 Sweethearts" fund raising event on behalf of Children's Miracle Network that was scheduled for tomorrow because of weather conditions.
"With so much of the state having suffered one winter storm after another, you're more than welcome to reschedule your event for whatever day works for you," advised the league.
