Virginia Credit Union members and employees are mourning the loss of retired president Dorothy J. Hall, who died this week at the age of 79.
Dedicated to serving Virginia CU for 42 years, Hall, who was hired as the credit union's first full-time paid employee, joined the Richmond, Va.-based credit union as a bookkeeper. In 1972, she became board treasurer and general manager. Her title changed to president in 1986 and she is credited with helping the credit union grow from serving 2,500 members with $1 million in assets to serving 123,000 members with over $600 million in assets when she retired in 1999.
Active in the industry, her work with credit union organizations also included leadership positions at the local, state and national levels serving as president of the Richmond Chapter of the Virginia Credit Union League, as a league director, and as a national director from Virginia.

"During her 42 years with the credit union, Dot demonstrated genuine compassion for members in need, with every interaction she had. She was always determined to find a way to help a member and inspired all of us to reach for those solutions."
