Representatives of the United States Air Force Memorial Foundation, responsible for Air Force Memorial in Boscawen, N.H., presented a plaque to Service Credit Union President/CEO Gordon Simmons and retired Executive Vice President Edward Murphy to acknowledge the credit union's support of the memorial.
Retired Major General Joseph K. Simeone, USAF, thanked both Simmons and Murphy during the presentation and said their efforts made the memorial possible.
The memorial, a joint effort of the Brigadier General Harrison R. Thyng Chapter of the Air Force Association, Chapter 155 of the Air Force Sergeants Association and the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery Association, is a scaled-down version of the Air Force Memorial in Washington and stands at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery grounds.
Service Credit Union provided frequent support to Memorial Committee of the New Hampshire chapters of the Air Force Sergeants Association and the Air Force Association (AFA) marking the credit union as the largest contributor to United States Air Force memorial.
“The credit union's support for the memorial is our way of showing gratitude for all that our airmen and women have done to defend our great nation,” said Gordon Simmons. “Our roots came from Pease Air Force Base when the credit union opened in 1957 just ten years after the Air Force became an independent military branch. It seems especially fitting with Service Credit Union's strong connection to the military that we are the largest contributor to the memorial.”
