Operations were back to near-normal at Iowa/Wisconsin/Illinois credit unions-and at CUNA Mutual, World Council in Madison along with state leagues-following Wednesday's fierce winter storm that paralyzed the Midwest.
It was the first time in recent memory that CUNA's Madison had been closed for the day because of a weather emergency, officials said. CUNA Mutual with its 2,000 employees did remain open with a skeleton crew with many employees using new technology to work computers from home.
"We're pretty hardy folk but 18 inch snow drifts make it difficult for anyone to get to work," said Phil Tschudy, media relations manager at CUNA Mutual.
Both the Wisconsin and Iowa Credit Union Leagues said it was back to business as usual today with no further closings reported. The Wisconsin League said it also shut down its Peewaukee offices near Milwaukee during the blizzard.
