On a critical week for credit unions on Capitol Hill, CUNA is brining in the reinforcements.
More than 600 credit union executives and volunteers from throughout the country are expected to arrive in Washington today and tomorrow as part of the group's National Hike the Hill.
The three-day effort is aimed at reminding lawmakers of the good work that credit unions do and to push for items on credit unions' wish list, including raising the cap on member business loans.

Lobbyists for CUNA and NAFCU say they hope that such an increase would be part of any jobs bill that lawmakers consider before they adjourn for the holidays.
The Hike the Hill will coincide with the House's consideration of a measure to revamp the way the financial services industry is regulated. Debate is scheduled to begin on Wednesday and a final vote is expected on Friday.
Credit union lobbyists are concerned about the added regulatory burden that could result from the creation of the proposed Consumer Financial Protection Agency. There is also a possibility that an amendment will be offered to give bankruptcy judges the power to rewrite the terms of mortgages.
