It pays to do give back. For the past 100 days Co-op Services Credit Union has been sparking the giving spirit in Southeast Michigan.
Wanting to turn ordinary money into real change in the community, the over $385 million credit union launched Project 100, where 100 randomly selected people were given $100 over 100 days-no strings attached. People were just encouraged to think about what they could do to give back to their communities, whether by volunteering or even just helping out a neighbor.
The Livonia, Mich.-based credit union spread the word via social media channels, including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and a microsite (www.whatisproject100.com), where locals can find tips about volunteering, giving back, learn more about local charities and hear the stories of the lucky 100 recipients.

The 100th recipient, Kate Sanders, who lost her job earlier this year, will be honoring her daughter's request to host a holiday party where guests bring unwrapped toys to donate to Toys for Tots or canned goods to donate to a local food bank in lieu of gifts.
The campaign has not only created community goodwill but also generated a buzz for Co-op Services CU with local media outlets sharing their efforts. To keep the spirit of giving in the forefront, the credit union has unveiled the Co-op Cares Project through the end of the year where members who open a checking account will receive $100 that can be donated to a local charity of their choice.
