NuMark Credit Union started its state-sponsored bank at school program by training four students to be tellers.
The four students attend Laraway School and were chosen by the principal to attend the event.
The students were invited to NuMark's Joliet, Ill., office boardroom where they learned about identity theft, Internet safety and confidentiality. The students also toured the credit union and were trained on all the tasks they will need to perform as bank at school tellers. The students learned how to count money, fill out deposit slips, find account numbers and make deposits into students' accounts.
"The aspect of the program that I like most is the fact that it instills the value of saving money and being accountable for it," said Laraway Principal Sandy Carter.
The Bank at School program was created with support from the Illinois State Treasurer's Office to promote a healthy savings habit for youth.
