Point Loma Credit Union, Palm Desert, Calif., hosted a kid's art display for autism awareness. The art show, which debuted at the credit union, features submissions from schoolchildren from all across the Coachella Valley. Their paintings and drawings were on display alongside artwork from autistic children in the "Kids Helping Kids" traveling art show.

GFA Federal Credit Union, Gardner, Mass., held its annual Member Appreciation Week. Throughout the week, the senior management team visited all of the credit union's branches to serve ice cream sundaes and personally thank visiting members. Members also entered drawings for thank you prizes at all branches, including the credit union's virtual branch at gfafcu.com.

Members Cooperative Credit Union, Duluth, Minn., formed a nonprofit foundation that will directly benefit young people in the communities it serves. The foundation's board consists of 11 members who span the ages of 17 and 74. The Community Youth Foundation will provide educational scholarships, financial literacy education and financial support for organizations and activities that make its communities stronger for youth.

GFA Federal Credit Union, Gardner, Mass., announced that it will be sponsoring the Greater Gardner Community Development Corp.'s first-time homebuyer course. The course is designed to educate potential homeowners on the many aspects of home buying. After attending both sessions participants receive a certificate that is required by many home loan programs.

Del-One Federal Credit Union, Dover, Del., celebrated its Milford Branch anniversary with food, fun and prizes. Secure bins were on-site to transport private documents for shredding, free of charge, courtesy of Lifestyle Document Management Inc. The credit union's Cashinator was also in action to give members a chance to grab for cash when taking advantage of one-day only loan and deposit specials.

Neighbors Credit Union, St. Louis, formed a team to participate in Walk Now for Autism. The 14-team members, composed of employees, friends and family members, not only created awareness of the disorder but also donated $450 to Autism Speaks. The team was among 21,000 who participated in the event. Walk Now for Autism is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for autism care, support and research.

American Heritage Federal Credit Union, Philadelphia, held their first adopt-a-highway event. The credit union's green team, which consisted of employees, their families and friends, received safety training and went to work cleaning two miles of Route 13 between Academy and Knights Roads. The Green Team plans to hold the event four times a year.

Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Roosevelt, N.Y., hosted Boy Scouts from Seaford Pack 690 Webelos at the site of its 20th community branch. The branch is under construction with an opening planned by the end of the year. The sixteen 9- to 10-year olds visited the site, working toward their engineering badges. Bethpage Federal Credit Union Vice President Anthony Edelman gave the scouts a tour of the building-interior framing had begun-and was later joined by representatives from JRS Architect P.C. and VRD Contracting for a discussion with the boys about the vision for the branch and its execution.

Hawthorne Credit Union, Bolingbrook, Ill., held a combination shred day/food drive. The event was aimed at helping people protect themselves from identity thief while getting into the holiday spirit by donating canned food items to a food drive to support Northern Illinois Food Bank.

San Mateo Credit Union, Redwood City, Calif., launched a refer-a-friend program, which will run until the end of December. Every time a referral to credit union results in a new membership, it will make a contribution to the Second Harvest Food Bank of San Mateo County. At the end the program's first quarter, the credit union celebrated its new referrals by funding the equivalent of 560 lunches and presented the food to the food bank.
