Navy Federal Credit Union is anticipating a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 31 to celebrate a new ATM at Camp Lemonnier, a military facility supporting U.S. anti-piracy and anti-terrorism operations on the horn of Africa.
Camp Lemonnier is near the city of Djibouti, which is the capital city of the nation of the same name. Djibouti is a nation on the horn of Africa in the same region as Somalia and Ethiopia.
Larry Wood, regional manager for Navy Federal who works on-site on the base, said the ATM had taken two years to put into place as the credit union worked through the technical, regulatory and other issues involved with putting the ATM in such a remote location.

The new ATM will be administered out of the credit union's branch in Bahrain and will serve a base which can have up 3,000 or more personnel when fully staffed, Wood said. The credit union administered roughly 50 ATMs outside the U.S.
