Getting an early start on International Credit Union Day, the Wisconsin Credit Union League was planning to run the annual promotion on a bigger and better scale-day ahead of the Oct. 15 global celebration-by blanketing politicians and the media with invites to Credit Union House of Madison.

The fact is the Wisconsin League does not have a standalone facility like the one run by CUNA in Washington but for ICU day league offices will serve that purpose, said a league spokesman.

Civic and government leaders plus reporters from across the state are invited to an afternoon reception and also tour "Credit Union House" with executives from CUNA and CUNA Mutual Group on hand.

They are participating to "share how despite troubled times credit unions are REAL lifesavers for people in Wisconsin, the U.S. and abroad." The cap REAL refers to the National Credit Union Foundation's REAL Solutions program on CU-driven financial products including payday alternatives.

"We decided that in light of the 100th anniversary celebration and because of our location in the heart of the system, we would make sure more of our partners and the media from across the state got to see us on ICU Day," said a league spokesman.

On a smaller scale but more typical of ICU festivities this month, Idaho Gov. C. L. Otter met with a contingent of Idaho Credit Union League executives on Oct. 5 as he signed a proclamation for "International Credit Union Day in Idaho" on Oct. 15.
