An executive with TSYS says that credit unions are a prime market for its new Program Solutions effort.

Wayne Johnson, leader of the new effort for the country, has a history of working with credit unions and said the new TSYS effort would offer credit unions a card processing option that many may find attractive. TSYS has previously worked with primarily large card issuers and portfolios.

Key parts of the effort will be a card platform which is newer, more flexible and easier to understand than competing programs and the opportunity to work with TSYS directly. Credit unions using other processors often have to join organizations or CUSOs in order to gain the best pricing based on their aggregate volume.

Johnson said the company was less interested in offering special volume pricing for credit unions or other groups because it already has so many card accounts that it already has the card volume needed to offer the best prices.
