The Electronic Payments Coalition, the group of card issuers formed to defend the existing card interchange structure, has reiterated why capping or removing card interchange in the U.S. would hurt consumers.

The group cited studies that reported capping and cutting card interchange in Australia has not cut prices on goods to consumers, as well as a Government Accounting Office study which showed the same thing. Additionally, testimony, even from some retail representatives themselves, that cutting card interchange will not necessarily lead to lower consumer prices.
