CU Community Credit Union, Springfield, Mo., announced the winner of its 2009 Franklin O. Walstrand memorial scholarship. Credit union member Chase Neff was awarded the $1,000 scholarship at CU Community's 75th anniversary annual meeting. Neff is attending Missouri State University to study physical therapy. The scholarship was established in 1996 to honor Franklin O. Walstrand, the first president of the credit union. Since then, 14 graduating high school seniors have been offered the scholarship.
AOD Federal Credit Union, Bynum, Ala., awarded six $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors. AOD created the scholarship to assist members with the increasing cost of college tuition. The credit union awards six scholarship on an annual basis to any graduating high school seniors who have been AOD members for at least one year.
Universal 1 Credit Union, Dayton, Ohio, awarded scholarships to two members. Claire Roess and Jordan Whitaker were the recipients of a $1,000 scholarship each. Roess is attending Furman University to study biology, and Whitaker is attending Miami University to study political science. Universal 1 offers the scholarship to high school seniors who are members and are considering post-secondary education at an accredited college or university.

Greater TEXAS Federal Credit Union, Bastrop, Texas, awarded B.E.S.T. scholarships to seniors from three local high schools. The three winning students submitted applications at the credit union's B.E.S.T college night and were chosen by a panel of credit union representatives.

Credit Union ONE, Ferndale, Mich., announced that it has selected six recipients for its 2009 community scholar awards. Six graduating high school seniors were chosen to each receive a $1,000 scholarship from the credit union. The scholarship awards were presented to the recipients at a dinner in their honor with the Credit Union ONE board of directors.
HarborOne Credit Union, Brockton, Mass., awarded $1,000 scholarships to ten local high school seniors. The seniors were presented their scholarships at a presentation ceremony at the credit union headquarters.

Kent County Credit Union, Grand Rapids, Mich., awarded its 2009 annual scholarships to Catholic Central High School senior Katelyn Kaminski and Jenison High School senior Sandra Brinks. Each recipient was awarded $1,000 by the board of directors at Kent County Credit Union's 53rd annual meeting.

GCS Federal Credit Union, Granite City, Ill., announced that member Tiffany Frisbie was the winner of its first "Get Mo' Green" scholarship. The credit union created the scholarship, along with its new teen club this year. To win the scholarship, Frisbie wrote an essay on why saving money is important. Frisbie is attending Southern Illinois University School of Dentistry. GCS will award the scholarship to a high school senior that is a member of the teen club each year.

Ledge Light Federal Credit Union, Groton, Conn., awarded two local high school seniors a $500 scholarship each. Matthew Baer and Ishita Kala were the scholarship winners. Baer is attending Paul Smith's College and Kala is attending Dartmouth College.

Langley Federal Credit Union, Newport News, Va., presented four credit union members with its galaxy graduate $5,000 scholarship awards. The winners were Timothy Hanaway, Courtney Killough, Kevin Lou and Matthew Robinson. The galaxy graduate scholarship is offered to members of the credit union's constellation club. The club was created for members up to the age of 18 and provides tools for parents to teach their children about the importance of financial responsibility.

DuPont Fibers Federal Credit Union, Chesterfield, Va., awarded two $2,500 Ruby A. Robinson scholarships to two members. Becky Gregory and Abigail Smith were the two recipients. Gregory is attending the University of Virginia to study business/marketing. Smith is attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute to study business. The scholarship was created to honor employee Ruby A. Robinson for her 30 year dedication to the credit union as one of its first employees. Since the scholarship program was created in 1993, DuPont Fibers has awarded a total of $114,000 in scholarships.

GFA Federal Credit Union, Gardner, Mass., awarded its David Jacques memorial scholarship to Thomas Kelley. Kelley is attending Westfield State College to study accounting. The scholarship is awarded annually to a local high school senior who demonstrates cooperative and community ideals. The scholarship is named after a board member who served for 25 years.

Community First Credit Union, Jacksonville, Fla., selected five high school seniors to receive its annual Raymond A. Vinson scholarship. Each senior will receive $1,000 toward attending a Florida college or university. Raymond A. Vinson founded the credit union in 1935. The scholarship is awarded annually to honor a students that excel scholastically and demonstrate financial need.
