DATCU, Denton, Texas, announced that Loan Operations Assistant Elizabeth Crews received a top volunteer award from Denton Independent School District. In order to receive the award, Crews volunteered for more than 300 hours at Strickland Middle School and Billy Ryan High School.
Greater Nevada Credit Union, Carson City, Nev., announced that its Minden branch has received the partnership award for outstanding volunteerism from the Douglas County Library. The award recognizes volunteerism by businesses based on their overall contribution as well as the length and consistency of their contribution to the library. In 2008, the Minden branch volunteered 40 hours with the library, helping them with a variety of activities including checking books in and out, sorting and shelving books, and answering phones.
FORUM Credit Union, Indianapolis, announced that FORUM Solutions, its wholly owned subsidiary, was awarded the excellence in corporate IT award at the 2009 Mira awards. The awards honor Indiana businesses, schools, universities and individuals for their contributions to the state's technology-related economy. FORUM Solutions received the award for its internally developed consumer loan origination software solution called TAPS Lending, the upgrade to FORUM's communication infrastructure and the launch of new product offerings for the benefit of the credit union's membership.
Black Hills Federal Credit Union, Rapid City, S.D., was honored by the Small Business Administration with the district director's leadership award. Presented at the Black Hills economic development awards annual banquet, the award is based on loan volume.
Buckeye State Credit Union, Akron, Ohio, announced that CEO Sue Preston was one of 28 recipients out of 1,423 nominations for special recognition from the Army National Guard as outstanding employer of a deployed serviceman. Sgt. Charles Stanfield of Buckeye's IT department was deployed twice, once to Iraq, and is currently serving another tour in the Sinai Peninsula. Preston raised money for phone cards and donated $1,000 of her own money for cards for Stanfield's unit so they could stay in touch with their families while overseas.
Andrews Federal Credit Union, Suitland, Md., was selected as the 2008 Air Force credit union of the year. This award is presented by the Department of the Air Force to a credit union that provides exceptional services to an Air Force base community. Andrews Federal's commitment to financial literacy, tailored products and service offerings, military community support and relationship with base personnel were all cited in its selection for the award. Andrews Federal also participates in various town hall forums, holds quarterly breakfasts with the First Sergeants Association, sponsors numerous military award programs and events and supports the annual "Military Saves" campaign.
SAFE Credit Union, North Highlands, Calif., received first-place honors in the statewide Desjardins Youth Financial Education Awards, which recognize leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of youth financial literacy. The credit union won in the asset category of $250 million and above, receiving the award for its youth financial literacy presentations at local high schools and its successful student-run high school branches. As a first-place winner, the credit union advances to the national Desjardins Youth Financial Education Awards overseen by the Credit Union National Association.
Frontier Community Credit Union, Leavenworth, Kan., announced that a staff member and volunteer were honored with awards at the Northeast Kansas Chapter of Credit Unions, Kansas Credit Union Association volunteer appreciation and awards banquet. Out of the chapter's 13 credit unions, Letha Higgins, Frontier CCU member service supervisor, was recognized as employee of the year. Don Homan, chairman of the Frontier CCU supervisory committee, was selected as volunteer of the year.
Neighbors Federal Credit Union, Baton Rouge, La., was awarded three 2009 Datatrac great rate awards for outperforming the Baton Rouge market interest rate average on auto loans, credit cards and personal loans. Datatrac great rate awards certify that the rate offered by an institution's product consistently outperformed the specified market average of all financial institutions monitored by Datatrac during an annual or quarterly period.
Tower Federal Credit Union, Laurel, Md., was named best overall performer in real estate lending by Prime Alliance Solutions Inc. Tower was selected for the award from more than 1,600 credit unions nationwide, and was chosen for its successful integration of people, process, strategy and technology. In 2008, Tower's mortgage loan volume increased 42% to $403 million, a significant increase versus the average growth rate of the prior three years by 17% or $32 million.
