Thanks to the heighted compliance burden and restrictions on travel, online compliance training is enjoying booming growth in 2009.
The number of credit union employees taking courses now tops a record-breaking 22,000, according to the latest CUNA statistics released this week.
"There's no doubt that improvements in the content, the number of training courses available and new delivery systems letting students undergo education 24/7 are also factors in the increases we've been witnessing, " declared Todd Spiczenski, vice president of the Madison-based Center for Professional Development.

Requests for the Bank Secrecy Act training modules continues to show some of the biggest increases, said Spiczenski but also popular have been requests for customized robbery and security training kits, which now can be tailored, packaged and parceled out at less cost to individual CUs.
Spiczenski stressed that while there are plenty of online compliance packages out on the market, many have a "banking spin"often produced by vendors for broad application in financial institutions whereas CUNA's program is tailored strictly for the CU setting.
Spiczenski said there are now 1,200 CUs subscribing to the online programs of the Madison center with that number expected to climb to 1,400 next year. A total of 3,000 new students have been added on to the program over the last year, 4,500 in the past two years, a sharp jump since the CPD online education efforts debuted nine years ago.
