Mid-Atlantic Corporate Federal Credit Union, Middletown, Pa., raised more than $10,500 for the Children's Miracle Network at its annual charity golf tournament. The Children's Miracle Network is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children's hospitals across North America.

Texans Credit Union, Dallas, helped raise more than $135,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation through the Texans Credit Union “Swing for a Cure” golf tournament at Gleneagles Country Club in Plano. Former Dallas Cowboy Cliff Harris served as host for the tournament. Texans Credit Union was the title sponsor, with additional support provided by Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Texas Western Hospitality, Andrews Distributing, Brazos Gas Co. and Lockheed Martin.
Heritage Federal Credit Union, Newburgh, Ind., sponsored or partnered with more than 110 local organizations during 2008. The credit union donated funding or in kind gifts of more than $75,900, and credit union employees volunteered a total of more than 1,380 hours to 48 organizations.

TruMark Financial Credit Union, Trevose, Pa., raised $1,380 to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation through employees wearing jeans on two Fridays. The foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Founded in 1980, the organization, working with a network of more than 25,000 volunteers, has reached more than 167,000 children around the world.

NARFE Premier Federal Credit Union, Alexandria, Va., raised more than $500 for the Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C. The credit union, which has 38 employees in two locations, entered each employee who contributed $10 into a drawing. Two lucky winners from each location were selected to throw a pie at credit union leaders. In Alexandria, Member Relations Representative Evelyn Maldonado threw a pie at Chief Strategic Officer Todd Hoepker and Lending Director Pam Sisk threw a pie at Chief Executive Officer Anthony T. Walker. In King George, Marketing Coordinator Christine Sparks and Member Relations Manager Maritza Walker threw the pies.

Indiana Members Credit Union, Indianapolis, has raised a total of $48,000 to supply children with needed school supplies. This total is the result of selling 30,944 candy bars at the 24 IMCU branches in central Indiana, as well as donations from an employee fundraiser, “Bowling for Backpacks.” IMCU has partnered with programs in Marion and surrounding counties to provide school supplies to underprivileged children. The credit union has purchased 2,500 backpacks with the money raised so far; IMCU employees will volunteer their time to fill the backpacks at a “Stuffing Party.”

United Educational Credit Union, Battle Creek, Mich., granted $927 from the Bright Ideas Partnership Grant to Dunlap Elementary Kids Care program. The goal is to purchase paper recycling bins for each classroom, office, hallways and playground. The students will be actively involved in collecting and promoting the program.

Connex Credit Union, North Haven, Conn., donated $264.13 to the American Diabetes Association. The money for this donation came from the fees collected by a coin counting machine in the Connex North Haven branch. The machine charges a five percent fee to members and a seven percent fee to non-members. Through its Connecticut chapter, the American Diabetes Association organizes activities and efforts such as diabetes month, diabetes alert day, Tour de Cure, Step Out for Diabetes and a free local forum that gives community members an opportunity to ask a panel of experts about diabetes and nutrition.

Battle Creek Chapter of Credit Unions, Battle Creek, Mich., presented a $2,000 check to the Junior Achievement of Southwest Michigan. Area credit unions include Battle Creek Area Community FCU, Grand Trunk Battle Creek EFCU, Kellogg Community FCU, Marshall Community CU, OMNI Community CU, Post Community CU, and United Educational CU. The donation will provide Junior Achievement programs to 100 students in schools in Battle Creek and the surrounding areas.

Whatcom Educational Credit Union, Bellingham, Wash., donated to the following local non-profits: The Bellingham Food Bank, Bellingham High School Band Boosters, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County, Ferndale Food Bank, Friends of the North Fork Community Library, LAW Advocates, Marianne's House, Opportunity Council, Sun Community Service, The Jazz Project, WSU Whatcom County Master Gardener Program, Whatcom Land Trust and Whatcom Volunteer Center.

1st Financial Federal Credit Union, Wentzville, Mo., held its second all-women build day for Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County's Divas Building Dreams home building project. The credit union provided volunteer hours to the eight employees who donated their day to building a home for Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County. The all-female employee build team consisted of administrative staff, a branch manager, a mortgage manager, a teller supervisor and a personal banker. To date, 1st Financial has donated more than 250 hours to HFHSCC.
