United Teletech Financial Federal Credit Union, Tinton Falls, N.J., participated in Clean Ocean Action's annual beach sweep at Sandy Hook. The credit union has participated in this effort since 2006. In addition to picking up trash, United Teletech employees, family and members completed data cards, which are reviewed and entered in a computer database and analyzed by COA. Data collected from the beach cleanups is used to identify and monitor pollution trends. The information helps find solutions to keep New Jersey beaches clean and healthy for citizens and marine life. Advance Financial Federal Credit Union, Schererville, Ill., participated in a March of Dimes Blue Jeans for Babies day. Twenty-seven employees each made a donation of $5 for the opportunity to wear blue jeans and their logo attire on a Friday. The credit union raised a total of $135. Eli Lilly Federal Credit Union, Indianapolis, focused on encouraging young members to save during its 2009 youth savings campaign. The theme for the campaign was "Save, Spend and Soar with Seymour." It featured the credit union's frog mascot, Seymour de Green, and benefited Children's Miracle Network-specifically, Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. ELFCU donated $5 for every new youth membership opened and $10 for every new Seymour Certificate opened during the campaign period. Members also had the opportunity to make personal donations through the credit union. In the end, ELFCU raised $3,234 in donations. With a dollar-for-dollar match from CO-OP Financial Services, the donation totaled $6,468.

Corporate America Family Credit Union, Elgin, Ill., helped Swedish Covenant Hospital celebrate its bike-to-work week by sponsoring a random drawing for a new bicycle. The winning name was drawn from the pool of hospital employees who rode their bikes work during the bike-to-work week. In addition to offering the new set of wheels, the folks at Corporate America dished up more than 400 scoops of ice cream to SCH staff at the kick-off event and offered details about the credit union's full range of financial services. Participants were also encouraged to put the money they save on gas into a Corporate America savings account. Wright-Patt Credit Union, Fairborn, Ohio, announced that the McClellan family was the $10,000 grand prize winner of the credit union's savings race. During the race, five local families worked with teams of Wright-Patt coaches to collectively increase their savings by $80,000 and reduce their debt by $65,000. Four families received $2,000 each for their dedication over the course of the race. Community members were invited to follow the participants' progress through blogs and news segments, and Wright-Patt also offered free financial education "pit stops" to encourage families in the Miami Valley to start their own money makeover. South Division Credit Union, Evergreen Park, Ill., teamed up with Shark Shredding to hold a community shred day at the Yukich Field farmer's market in Evergreen Park. Several hundred people stopped by the free event to dispose of old financial statements, cancelled checks, and old tax documents, as well as computer discs and other materials containing sensitive information. In addition, as part of the statewide credit union consumer education drive, iBelong, SDCU staff members distributed information about avoiding ID theft and signed participants up to win a free heavy-duty home shredder.

Scott Credit Union, Collinsville, Ill., donated $1,000 to support the 2009 Tour de Belleville. The tour has raised more than $60,000 in three years to promote recreational safety on the Belleville bicycle trail.
