The Golden 1 Credit Union, Sacramento, Calif., announced that President/CEO Teresa A. Halleck was one of five Sacramento-area women honored by the St. John's Shelter for Women and Children for their commitment to motherhood. Halleck was chosen to receive the award for her commitment to helping children and for mentoring an emancipated foster child.
FAA Credit Union, Moore, Okla., has been named patron of the year for 2008-2009 by Westmoore High School. Each year, the school recognizes one business that values education as part of its corporate citizenship. In 2007, the high school partnered with FAA Credit Union to open the state's first student-run credit union branch. The branch, named Jag Money after the school's mascot, was formed to provide financial education and on-the-job training for the students of the school. Since its inception, the branch has employed more than 10 Westmoore students, many of whom have gone on to full-time positions at the credit union.
Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Bethpage, N.Y., announced that Elmont Branch Manager Jessica Carrasquillo has been named the recipient of the 2009 Argo Civic Association business award. Argo was established by Elmont citizens to bring elected officials, businesses and community representatives together to address the concerns of Elmont residents. Carrasquillo has represented Bethpage in Elmont community programs including the Dutch-Broadway PTA, Elmont clean-up day, Argo Civic Association bike safety initiative and family field day.
Diamond Credit Union, Pottstown, Pa., was recognized with a campaign performance award for its service to the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania. In 2008, Diamond Credit Union celebrated its seventh consecutive year of 100% employee participation in the United Way campaign and raised more than $22,000 for the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania. The 2008 campaign was organized by Linda Rudolph, Diamond Credit Union's human resources manager and United Way chairperson.
North Island Credit Union, San Diego, announced that Vice President Gary Bryant was named philanthropist of the year by the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. Bryant was awarded this honor at the fourth annual Red Shoe Ball held at the Ronald McDonald House San Diego. North Island Credit Union and Barnhart were named corporations of the year for their role in the construction of the new Ronald McDonald House that will benefit families staying there.
Genisys Credit Union, Auburn Hills, Mich., was voted best credit union and best mortgage lender in Oakland County by readers of The Oakland Press. Last year, Genisys sponsored 200 community events by providing monetary donations, gifts-in-kind and more than 2,000 hours of hands-on volunteer support.
First Bristol Federal Credit Union, Bristol, Conn., received a five-star superior rating for financial strength and stability from Bauer Financial Inc. Five stars is the highest rating attainable from Bauer Financial and is based on the overall financial picture of the institution. This is the 70th consecutive quarter that First Bristol Federal Credit Union has earned this honor.
Indiana Members Credit Union, Indianapolis, ranked first in this year's list of top workplaces in Central Indiana in The Indianapolis Star. Employee surveys conducted on behalf of the newspaper by Workplace Dynamics of Exton, Pa., show that Indiana Members Credit Union is invested in taking good care of its employees. IMCU was voted No. 1 in the large company category as well as No. 1 for career opportunities. More than 17,000 employees at 129 companies in the Indianapolis metro area participated in the survey.
Local Government Federal Credit Union, Raleigh, N.C., announced that President Maurice Smith was honored with the mark of excellence award at the 74th annual meeting of the North Carolina Credit Union League. The award recognizes sustained leadership among people in the North Carolina credit union industry. Smith began his credit union career 30 years ago as a loan officer with State Employees' Credit Union. He joined LGFCU in 1992 as the executive vice president and has served since 1999 as president of the credit union, where his goal has been to advance the credit union philosophy.
National Association of Credit Union Supervisory Auditing Committees, Del Mar, Calif., presented two awards at its 2009 annual conference in San Diego. Curtis Parkerson, a retired member of the supervisory committee at Houston-based PrimeWay Federal Credit Union, was honored with NACUSAC's 2009 Golden Service Award for making a significant contribution to his credit union. Since 1984, Parkerson has been a volunteer official of the credit union, serving on both the board of directors and supervisory committee. The second award was presented to LarsonAllen LLP for NACUSAC's 2009 Associate Member of the Year. LarsonAllen LLP was selected based on its dedication and extensive knowledge in helping credit unions with their information security needs.
Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union, Aberdeen, Md., announced that Chairman of the Board David H. Gilbert has been named volunteer of the year by NAFCU. Gilbert has been chairman at APGFCU for 14 years. He has served on numerous committees since 1969 and is recognized as an outstanding national leader of credit unions and their volunteer directors. He served as a director of NAFCU for 10 years, including an 18-month stretch on the executive committee. When Gilbert's national representation with NAFCU ended in 2007, he took his experience and advocacy to the local level and was elected a director of the Maryland and D.C. Credit Union Association.
